Permanent resident

Request an electronic visa record

You may need to provide information about your Australian visa entitlements when applying for a job or to access government services. Use your passport to get this evidence in VEVO.

If you are a long term resident who arrived in Australia before 1990 and have not left the country since, you are unlikely to have an electronic visa record. You can apply for an electronic visa record so you can use VEVO and provide this information to others.

In most cases you will need to:

  • hold a valid passport to apply and
  • provide other identity documents, including evidence of your first arrival in Australia.

You will be able to use VEVO once we link your passport to the visa record. There is no fee to create an electronic visa record.

If you do not hold a passport and you last entered Australia before 1990, you can still apply for an electronic visa record if:

  • you, or one of your family members, are applying for a passport from your country of citizenship and you have been asked to prove that you are not an Australian citizen, or
  • Centrelink have asked you to provide them with evidence of your Commencement of Identity, visa or residency status.

If you need to provide Centrelink with evidence of your visa or residency status, we may issue you with an ImmiCard.

Arrived in Australia after 1990

If you last entered Australia after 1990 you will already have an electronic visa record. You can access VEVO using the details from the passport you last used to enter Australia.

If you have renewed your passport since your last entry to Australia, you will need to tell us of the new details before you can use VEVO.

Permanent resident travelling overseas

If you are a long term resident who arrived in Australia before 1990 and have not left Australia since, you are unlikely to have an electronic visa record. In order to be able to use VEVO you will have to apply for an electronic visa record.

Immigration or Citizenship status for a foreign passport application

When you or a family member apply for a passport from your country of citizenship, you may be asked to prove your immigration or citizenship status in Australia. If you apply for an electronic visa record for this purpose, we will ask for your permission to send the information directly to the passport authority.

Once you get a new passport & you will need to tell us of the new details so that we can link your visa to your new passport. You will then be able to use VEVO to get evidence of your Australian visa.
