BIIP closure and refunds

​​​​​​​​The Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) closed permanently to new applications on 31 July 2024.​

Visa Application Charge refunds​

You may be able to get a refund of the Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188) Visa Application Charge (VAC) if you withdraw your application on or after 31 July 2024.

Refunds are available for these streams:

  • Business Innovation
  • Investor
  • Significant Investor
  • Entrepreneur

Refunds are not available for these streams:

  • Business Innovation Extension
  • ​Significant Investor Extension.​

Refunds are also available for the Business Talent (subclass 132) VAC. This applies to Significant Business History or Venture Capital Entrepreneur stream applicants who withdraw their application on or after 31 July 2024.

Before you withdraw your application

How to withdraw your BIIP application and request a refund

You can withdraw your BIIP application through ImmiAccount.

After you receive a formal withdrawal notification, you can request a VAC refund in ImmiAccount.

To request a refund:

    1. Log in to ImmiAccount.
    2. Select My Payments.
    3. Select Manage Payments.
    4. Check the payment status of your VAC. You can request a refund if the payment status is Credit or Paid.
    5. From the actions menu, select Request Refund.
    6. Choose Voluntary withdrawal of BIIP application from the reason drop-down menu.

Refund timeframes

There is no standard timeframe for processing a refund request.

We assess each refund request individually under the relevant legal authority or administrative rules.
