Withdrawal of a paper-based visa application by one applicant (such as the main applicant) does not constitute withdrawal of the visa applications of other applicants included in a combined application (such as secondary applicants). Written consent of withdrawal must be given by each applicant or the person with clear authority to act on the applicant’s behalf. Written consent can be provided through a completed and signed 956 form (see: 956 - Appointment of a registered migration agent, legal practitioner or exempt person). It can also be provided through a written declaration signed by the visa applicant indicating they consent to the withdrawal of their visa application. This should be attached to this form.

Note: You cannot save the form to complete later. Therefore, if you are completing this form for another person, you should have his or her consent to withdraw and copy of an identity document ready to attach before commencing. Before submitting this form, ensure that you have completed all of the needed sections, attached any required documents and selected the check box declaration.

Who can use this form?

You can use this form if you:

  • Are an applicant who has made a paper-based application for one of the visas listed above
  • Are a person with clear authority to act on an applicant’s behalf (for example, a migration agent or exempt person)
  • Are the parent or guardian of an applicant under 18 years of age.

For withdrawal of an online visa application see You want to withdraw an application.

After you submit this form: Once we have received the request to withdraw a visa application, the application is withdrawn immediately.

Application status: Once a visa application has been withdrawn, no further action can be taken on the withdrawn application. If a person wants to be considered for a visa in the future, they must make a new visa application. All remaining applicants in a combined visa application (if any) will continue to have a visa application that must be considered unless those applications are also withdrawn.

Your immigration status (for applicants in Australia) after withdrawal of your visa application: If you hold a bridging visa that was granted before 19 November 2016, associated with the application being withdrawn, your bridging visa will cease to be in effect 28 calendar days from the date of the withdrawal. If you hold a bridging visa that was granted on or after 19 November 2016, associated with the application being withdrawn, your bridging visa will cease to be in effect 35 calendar days from the date of the withdrawal. Unless you are the holder of another visa or you have become an Australian citizen, you will be an unlawful non-citizen and subject to immigration detention and removal from Australia.

Application charge: Visa application charges are paid to assess your application. For information about the limited circumstances in which refunds can be given, and how to request one, please see: Getting a refund.
