Withdrawal of a paper-based visa application by one applicant (such as the main applicant) does not constitute a withdrawal of the visa application of other applicants included in a combined application (such as secondary applicants).

Each applicant or the person with clear authority to act on the applicant’s behalf must give written consent of withdrawal. You can provide written consent through a completed and signed 956 form (see 956 - Appointment of a registered migration agent, legal practitioner or exempt person). You can also provide it through a written declaration signed by the visa applicant indicating they consent to the withdrawal of their visa application. You should attach written consent to this form.

Note: You cannot save the form to complete later. If you are completing this form for another person, you should have their consent to withdraw and copy of an identity document ready to attach before commencing. Before submitting this form, ensure that you:

  • complete all of the mandatory sections
  • attach any required documents
  • complete the check box declaration under the Privacy and Security heading.

Who can use this form

You can use this form if you are:

  • an applicant who has made a paper-based application for one of the visas listed above
  • a person with clear authority to act on an applicant’s behalf (for example, a migration agent or exempt person)
  • the parent or guardian of an applicant under 18 years of age.

To withdraw an online visa application or a paper-based application that you have imported into ImmiAccount, see You want to withdraw an application.

After you submit this form: Once we have received the request to withdraw a visa application, the application is withdrawn immediately.

Application status: Once a visa application has been withdrawn, no further action can be taken on the withdrawn application. If a person wants to be considered for a visa in the future, they must make a new visa application. We will continue to consider all remaining applicants in a combined visa application (if any), unless those applications are also withdrawn.

Your immigration status (for applicants in Australia) after withdrawal of your visa application: If you hold a bridging visa that was granted before 19 November 2016 associated with the application being withdrawn, your bridging visa will cease to be in effect 28 calendar days from the date of the withdrawal.

If you hold a bridging visa that was granted on or after 19 November 2016 associated with the application being withdrawn, your bridging visa will cease to be in effect 35 calendar days from the date of the withdrawal.

Unless you are the holder of another visa or you have become an Australian citizen, you will be an unlawful non-citizen following the cessation of your bridging visa. You may be subject to immigration detention and removal from Australia.

Application charge: You must pay visa application charges to have the department assess your application. For information about the limited circumstances in which we can give refunds, and how to request one, see Getting a refund.
