New Zealand citizens

New Zealand citizens do not need to apply for a visa before coming to Australia. If you are eligible, we will grant you a Special Category visa (subclass 444) (SCV) when you arrive.

If you want to stay in Australia permanently, you can choose to apply for a permanent visa, if eligible.

Becoming an Australian permanent resident may allow you to access additional entitlements.

We no longer issue Certificate of Status for New Zealand Citizens in Australia (CSNZCA). Centrelink no longer requires a CSNZCA to determine your residence status.

Becoming an Australian citizen

The temporary Special Category Visa (subclass 444) (SCV) does not limit how long you can stay in Australia. However, an SCV is not always a direct pathway to Australian citizenship.

See more pathway to permanent residence and citizenship.

Check your visa details and status

You can check your visa details and conditions online using VEVO. To access VEVO, you will need a reference number.
