New Zealand citizens

New Zealand citizens with a valid New Zealand passport do not need to apply for a visa before coming to Australia. If you apply and meet the criteria for a Special Category visa (subclass 444) (SCV) when you enter Australia, we will grant you the visa.

If you want to stay in Australia as a permanent visa holder, you can choose to apply for a permanent visa

Becoming an Australian permanent resident by holding a permanent visa may allow you to access extra entitlements. It may also allow you to apply for Australia citizenship.

We no longer issue a Certificate of Status for New Zealand Citizens in Australia (CSNZCA). Centrelink no longer requires a CSNZCA to determine your residence status.

Request your international movement records.

Becoming an Australian citizen

The Special Category visa (subclass 444) (SCV) does not limit how long you can stay in Australia. An SCV is not always a direct pathway to Australian citizenship.

See pathway to permanent residence and citizenship.

Check your visa details and status

You can check your visa details and conditions or get a copy of your visa online using VEVO. To access VEVO, you will need a reference number.
