Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program

Working holidays for Australians

For Australian citizens, the Working Holiday Maker program offers the opportunity to travel and work overseas in over 40 different countries or jurisdictions.  Australian participants can generally stay for up to 12 months and undertake short-term work and study.

Each partner country or jurisdiction has its own name for the program, for example the United Kingdom's 'Youth Mobility Scheme', as well as its own specific eligibility criteria and conditions for Australians.

For full details of the visa requirements and conditions for Australians you will need to contact the relevant country's representation in Australia.  Links are provided in the following pages and a list of foreign embassies and high commissions in Australia is also available on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.
