Status of country caps
There is an annual limit or 'cap' on the number of first Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visas that can be granted each program year (1 July to 30 June) for applicants who hold a passport from the countries in the following table.
Once the application cap reaches the limit of visas that can be granted in a program year, the status of application cap is updated to ‘closed’ on the table below. This means that no more applications can be lodged until the next program year. There is no cap on second or third Work and Holiday visas.
The 'Status of application cap' indicators below show if applications for a first Work and Holiday visa are still open for your country of passport.
Open – Applications are open. For Information on how to apply online see

paused – Applications have been paused as the application cap is close to being filled, or there are other operational reasons that mean that the program cannot be opened yet. You can keep checking this page to see when applications open again.
Closed – Applications are closed until the new program year commences on 1 July.

* Due to a high volume of interest for these countries, programs are temporarily paused, and will open when the new pre-visa application (ballot) arrangements are finalised later in the year.
Any applications submitted during the program year 2023-24 that remain unfinalised will be decided during this program year 2024-25 including countries such as Argentina, Chile, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Note: that owing to technical constraints there may be some delay in reflecting status changes.
