Protection visas (onshore)

​​​​​​Permanent protection

If you arrived in Australia legally, you may be able to​​​ apply for a Protection visa (subclass 866).

We have made changes to stop people misusing Protection visas (subclass 866). You can also access free legal advice if you are thinking about applying for protection.​

Temporary Protection​​

If you arrived in Australia illegally, you may be able to apply for a Temporary Protection visa (TPV) (subclass 785) or a Safe Haven Enterprise visa (SHEV) (subclass 790).

If you have already applied for a TPV or a SHEV, you need to wait for the outcome of that application.

TPV and SHEV holders

If you currently hold or formerly held a ​Temporary Protection visa (subclass 785) or a Safe Haven Enterprise visa (subclass 790) and you arrived in Australia before 14​ February 2023 ​you may be able to apply for a Resolution of Status visa (subclass 851)​.
