Attaching documents to your application
You can attach multiple documents to the application form but the maximum size for all attachments is 10MB
Attachments must meet the following requirements:
You must attach high-resolution (600 dots per inch (dpi)) colour scans of your original documents.
We do not require certified copies.
If any of your original documents are in a language other than English, you will need to provide a copy of that document together with a version translated into English by a translator accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
We will not accept the following:
- Black and white copies. Scans must be in colour and at a resolution of at least 300dpi.
- Photographs of documents. Documents must be scanned.
- Scanned photocopies. You must scan the original document.
- Selfies. If we ask you to provide a photograph of yourself, you must provide a passport quality photograph of your face and shoulders.
Facial image requirements
If you are required to attach a photo of yourself it should be no more than 6 months old.
We recommend you use a passport quality photograph obtained at an Australia Post outlet or similar.
The following guidelines apply if you supply your own photograph.
The photo must include:
- your full head including hair
- neck and shoulders
- both eyes
- nose
- mouth
- you must be facing directly towards, and looking at, the camera
- your facial expression must be neutral, with eyes open, mouth and lips closed.
What NOT to include:
- other people or parts of other people
- objects, such as furniture / cups
- hair covering eyes
- a hat or scarf or any other item that obscures the face, hair or neck, unless required for religious or cultural reasons
- any background other than a neutral background with a smooth surface (for example an internal wall, a plain non-glossy white door).
Technical & Photography Standards
- Resolution (width x height): 1200 x 1600 pixels with vertical orientation
- Format JPEG (Joint Photographic Expert Group) facial image format
- Compression level: Fine (high JPEG compression)
- File size must be no larger than 500KB
- Subject must be positioned as close as possible to a neutral 18% grey background with a smooth surface
- Ambient lighting should be as bright as possible
- Camera must be level and the lens must be pointing straight at the subject
- Distance from the centre of the subject’s head to the camera lens should be 1.4 meters.
Visa Grant Number
The Visa Grant Number is 13 characters long and is located on the visa grant notice.
Client ID
The Client ID is an 11 digit number located near the top of the visa grant notice.
Boat ID
A Boat ID was issued to unauthorised maritime arrivals. It consists of three letters and three numbers. Example: VIC123
Document for Travel to Australia (DFTTA) number
The DFTTA number consists of a letter followed by six numbers, and is located on the DFTTA, in the right hand corner above the photograph. For example: E123456.
ImmiCard number
The ImmiCard number is printed on the ImmiCard and comprises three letters followed by six numbers. For example: AMS123456 or EIS123456.
Residential address
An Australian residential address is required. Post office boxes will not be accepted.
To enter an address into the Street address field, start with your unit or house number, followed by street name then suburb. As you type, the system will begin to display possible address matches. Be sure to check that the address you select is the correct address.
If you live in a unit or townhouse, you may need to enter the address in full to ensure the correct address displays. It may assist to refer to the following formatting, for example:

Enter the address as:
2/14 Smith Street, Suburb, State, Postcode.
